A government selective-entry boys' school whose continuous origins date to the Melbourne Continuation School, opened in Spring Street in 1905 as Victoria's first state secondary school. The boys' school took the Melbourne High School name and moved to its current Forrest Hill site in South Yarra in 1927-1928.
