History

Founded 1851

Established in 1851 as The Melbourne Academy by the Free Presbyterian Church of Victoria, opening on 6 October 1851 in Spring Street, Melbourne, with Robert Lawson as first principal. It is the oldest extant secondary school in Victoria and moved to its Hawthorn campus between 1916 and 1926.
