Strathcona Girls Grammar opened on 12 February 1924 as an independent school in Canterbury, founded by Miss Henrietta Hughes and Mrs Florence Mabel Livingstone. The Baptist Union purchased the school in 1943, after which it became Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar School.
